Organisations

Konflux Theatre in Education has been working with councils and organisations over the years to deliver exciting workshops contributing towards Gifted & Talented programmes; Extended Services provision; and environmental awareness campaigns.

Gifted & Talented

gifted and talentedKonflux Theatre is an accredited Gifted & Talented Provider. As well as working with G&T groups within schools, we work with various G&T groups booked in through Local Authorities, EiP's; Excellence clusters and Partnerships across the UK.

"The 'Play in a Day' workshops we have run in the North East for G&T children are always massively over-subscribed! They are fun, well-run, totally absorbing and challenge all of the children – as the parents see in the heart-warming final performance at the end of the day. The children come together in the morning not knowing anyone else usually but go away having made new friends and totally buzzing about their experiences. Even the shyer children feel they have had the chance to participate and show what they can do."

- Sue Blakemore, North-East Regional Partnership

Please see our Stone Soup, Play in a Day and Play in a Week workshops - which are all popular options for Gifted & Talented groups.

Extended schools

We work with our extended schools clusters in various ways. Out of school provision is a popular choice, and Play in a Week and Play in a Day is booked most often for these events, as they allow a performance at the end of the day or week.

Play in a Day is also used regularly used as a transition workshop. Here Konflux Theatre deliver a Play in a Day to Year 6 pupils from feeder primary schools, to take place in their chosen secondary school, performing back from year 7 groups at the end of the school day. This not only allows the children to explore their soon-to-be new surroundings, but to also feel comfortable in the school, and of course to meet other students from the school.

We are also looking to develop a brand new Play in a Day workshop for year 5 & 6 pupils, which will explore the issues surrounding transition, and the new schooling life they will face in KS3. Please call us for more details.

"Play in a Day has been an integral part of our Transition programme for ten years and is highly valued by all Head teachers within the Cluster. Our PIAD week-long Festival enables each Y6 child to develop their communication, memory and team-working skills. Their audiences include parents, Y6 pupils from other feeder schools and KS3 pupils from CHCS who are delighted to re-visit happy memories from their own Y6 PIAD. Play in a Day gives every child the opportunity to shine – the boost in confidence they take from the day gives them an invaluable start to such an important year in their school career."

Waste management & environmental services

Konflux Theatre helps deliver hundred of workshops each year in collaboration with various councils and organisations on a range of environmental campaigns from Reduce; Reuse; Recycle to Love Food, Hate Waste to Talking Rubbish. See all environmental synopses.

Play in a Day is one of the most effective ways to reach a number of children. Not only do the 30 children involved in the day learn about the importance of the environment, but also the invited audience of parents and the rest of the school who watch the final performance, performed by those children at the end of the school day. Awareness and understanding are the main aims for our environmental Play in a Day workshops.

If there is a specific requirement that your council or organisation needs to incorporate - Konflux Theatre can have scripts modified and re-written with those requirement in mind. "We have loved working with Konflux; they delivered the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' Play in a Day workshop to ten school groups over a two week period as part of a Sustainable Schools project. The workshop leader really engaged well with the pupils and encouraged them to get the best out of themselves, and watching the pupils rehearse and perform it was obvious that they were thoroughly absorbed and very much enjoying themselves.

While carrying out the follow-up work, I was amazed by how much of the information given during the session had stuck with them - acting out scenarios had obviously helped them to make sense of complex environmental messages. Feedback from teachers stated that they would like to repeat the day next year; and focused on the fun, experiential learning that the workshops allow. One said she hadn't stopped laughing all day!

The workshops are also an excellent way to get the message to parents, governors and the wider community as they are welcome to the performance at the end of the day. We look forward to working with Konflux again in the near future."
