Sports Day in the UK!

Did you know that 'Sports Day' isn't just something our teachers make us do every year; it actually dates back to the Victorian era! Wow.

Back in the late 19th century, there were events such as the ‘High leap with a pole’ and even a ‘one mile bicycle race’!

Over the years, along with the ever-developing physical education curriculum, it now seen as a Summer tradition across UK Primary and Secondary schools.

Not only is this fun for pupils, teachers and parents, it is a great way to keep fit, spend time outside (although that can often be rare with British weather), encourage light competitiveness and celebrate team spirit with friends!

Staying fit and healthy as we know is crucial for our physical health AND our mental health!

Now today’s events see typical races including:

  • Sack Race
  • 3-Legged Race
  • Egg and Spoon Race
  • Relay Race

We hope everyone has enjoyed their Sports Day this year!
