It's almost time to count down into the New Year! We hope everyone has had a great 2025 and here's to making 2026 even better!

How will you be bringing in the New Year? We have been looking at traditions that will be taking place in countries around the world on New Year’s Eve...

Spain

Each time the clock strikes at midnight you’ll find a Spaniard chomping on a grape! That’s right, it’s believed this will bring you luck for the next year!

Denmark

In Denmark, you’ll find people having a smashing time by… smashing plates on their loves ones doorsteps! The more shards left on your doorstep the more luck you are!

Greece

You will find onions hanging on peoples doorsteps in Greece for New Years! They belive onions are a symbol of prosperity because they grow even when no one is paying attention

Brazil

Brazilians make their way to the beach for their New Years! People are encouraged to get in the water and jump over seven waves – one for each of the Devine spirits in the Umbanda religion.

Mexico

In parts of Mexico people take to the streets (or front room) with an empty suitcase and go for a stroll! This is thought to bring travel and new experiences to the New Year!

London

And finally, it’s only right we mention one of many traditions we have here in England, and that’s the midnight chimes of Big Ben followed by a fantastic firework display across the London Eye and River Thames.
